Psychogeography project was my first choice when we had to pick 3 projects for field term 2. The reason was because I thought it was a very interesting topic combining psychology and geography. I didn’t know anything about psychogeography in general or the concept of flauner. When we started off the project with the Birmingham trip walking around the city taking photographs and listening to the history of the place with Carl I knew I was really going to enjoy this project even in that moment it changed my perspective to the places we live in. When we had to create our own project, I knew instantly where I was going to base it on and what I wanted to explore. This project allowed to create something very personal for the first time, it allowed to me focus on my background and explore issues that effect my personal life.
With this project, I was able to explore issues that I have always been part of and made me realise how I wanted to do something about it. Basing the project on Swindon and focusing on experience of a young designer walking around a street that I was always told not go or avoid really gave me power and ability to create a personal project that I am very proud of. This project I was able to come out of my comfort zone, to experiment with issues more than just creating logos or posters for businesses or organisation but create something that has a social background. I was able to research and learn about many new artists and designers, I learnt about a completely new concept and ideas. I also had problems and challenges I faced with because the project was broad and we could create anything we want, it was a challenge to develop and decide on a final outcome. It took me few tutorials and few small talks with my lecturers to finalise the final outcome. I think this links with my course as in graphics we are usually told what is expected at the end of the project. This was also a reason why I feel I came out of my comfort zone because I wasn’t behind the computer for weeks I wanted to make something that is different and show that I can communicate something without using digital. Whether I get a really high grade when its assessed or not I am really happy with my outcomes and I’m proud that I was able to break the social barriers and things I’ve been told all these years and go into those streets and explore which I believe is the most significant part of a psychogeography.
