First of all, before starting my video I watched some videos on effects and presets. I did some research on which effects used commonly in information videos, animations etc. The first slide I used ‘Textism’ with a dark yellow background which will be consistent in every frame except the animations.
I used the font ‘DIN alternate’ in bold. This is a very simple and effective font. I used the effect typewriter which makes it look like something is typing each letter. I could add an audio with the sound effect. I will decide about audio once I do few more frames. I think the yellow background makes the text stand out.
I decided to use a text message symbol under the text which the opacity is low. I think this looks letter and adds details to the frame. When it was just text, it looked very empty. I think I could do this to every frame. I made the text symbol on the After Effect. After Effects is a software I haven’t used before and it’s hard trying to find the right effect as there’s so many presets.
This was my first idea for frame 3. I used the text message symbol and used the tools to make the numbers rising like on text message. When I showed this to Wendy she suggested to me that I should put this in context with a hand holding a mobile phone. I think that’s a better idea because it puts it into context. So, I created a vector on Illustration and playing with rotations on after effect to create a movement so it zooms in. When it doesn’t zoom in the text symbol is too small it isn’t clear.I think this really worked succesfully as its a way for viwer to be hooked in the video and if every frame consisted of words it could get boring at some point. I think the hardest part about this project for me is working on After Effect with my basic knowledge from tutorials. Having no experience on the software really does make things hard. However, since we started the project I’ve learn’t how to use most tools in the software and keep developing myself every stage of the process.
The image above is a close up from frame 3. The movement starst of being distant a hand holding the phone and in few seconds the hand moves close and once it gets to a point it stops moving, the text app can easily be seen then the notification on text messages come through rising from 1 to 20 in fast speed. The problem with this frame was that I don’t know how fast this frame should be. If this frame is for 10 seconds then people can get bored as all they see is notificatins coming in. This could ruin the effect I was trying to create.
